STRATFORD.

The Stratford Hospital Board, at a special meeting to-day, accepted the tender of Messrs Julian and Sons, New Plymouth, for additions to the hospital and nurses' home; also that of Messrs Smart Bors. for the heating system. Colonel Mitchell, district organiser for the R.S.A., attended a meeting of the Stratford branch last evening, and delivered an interesting address. He expects to return to Stratford in about three weeks' time,, when he will give a public address, setting out the aims and objects of the R.S.A. Mr. E. W. Johnston (son of Mrs. Ferguson, of Toko), who is studying medicine at the Otago University, has passed the intermediate examination. A social was held in the Pukengahu schoolroom last evening in honor of Trooper Coleman and Private Booker, who have lately returned from active service. Mr. R. Masters, on behalf of the residents, presented Trooper Coleman with a pipe and case, and Private Booker with a silver-mounted cigarette liolder. Songs were sung by Miss Phillips and Mr. G. Sanne. Miss Perrot played the accompaniments. Music for the dance was played by Mrs. Bianchi, and Mr. J. Christoffel officiated as M.C. A good supper was provided by the ladies of the district. The following passed at the practical examinations under the Royal Academy of Music held at Stratford on Thursday:—Local Centre: Advance grade, Helen Atkinson (Miss Stanford, St. Mary's School). School examinations: Higher division, Hilda Muriel Lowrie and Averil R. Larson ('Miss Stanford), Myra Boyle and Theresa Kenyan (Convent). Lower division: Leah Constance Keying (Miss Stanford). Elementary, Lena Uhlenberg. The marriage took place on Thursday. in the Presbyterian Church, Stratford, of Mildred Clarice, eldest daughter of Mr. C. B. Walsh, Stratford, to Mr. Victor J. Bennett, of the local post office staff. The ceremony was performed in the presence of a large number of people by the Rev. R. B. Tinsley. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white crepe de cheno and georgette, embroidered in silver beads with touches of pink. She wore the orthodox orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of white and pink flowers. The bridesmaids were Misses Elsie and Lynda Walsh, whose dresses of cream net over satin and pink and mauve tulle sashes were very pretty. They wore picture hats and carried bouquets of anemones. The best man was Mr. C. Bennett, and Mr. J. Hornblow was groomsman. AftK the wedding breakfast at the residonci of the bride's parents, the newly wedded couple left by motor car for Wanganu'i on their honeymoon. Speaking to a gathering of farmers to-day Mr. W. G- Taylor referred to the ignorance of some men who accepted , employment on dairy farms concerning cows, and instanced a ea-c iVit had come under his notice in which two Wen were milking on share?
