PREFER COAL MINE TO PULPIT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyr'ght. London, Sept. 25. A .report presented to the Welsh Baptist I nion at Aberuvon stated that, owing to the low stipends (many of which were less than £IOO a year) and the high cost of living, a number of pastors had thrown up the church to become coal miners, thereby quadrupling their earnings, but leaving the chureli without ministers. —United Service. METEOROLOGICAL CONFERENCE. London, Sept. 25. A meteorological conference has opened at South Kensington, at which the Dominions and India are represented. The discussions mainly relate to the organisation of observations to meet the development of aerial navigation.
