THE WHEEL TAX. Outside the Taranaki County Council there will be general agreement in the province with the action of the member for Egmont -in tlie House of Representatives on Thursday evening, when ho moved an amendment to the Counties Act repealing tlie powers possessed by a few counties to levy a wheel tax!—powers which the Taranaki County are about to invoke. These lowers should never have been given to any local body; •they should only be 'Vricised by the Government, making Ki.v'ii a tax general aiul not local. As Mr. Wilkinson rightly pointed out, if he same powers had been given to other ■oiffiiies the district would be fenced off
