At a largely attended meeting of returned soldiers to discuss the gratuity scheme, a motion was carried t<b the ( efl'ect that if the gratuity must be paid , by the country Is Cd was considered sufficient, but at the same time it was thought that means should be available . to the Government for deriving from the war profiteers sufficient to pay the amount of the gratuity asked for by the deputation in Wellington. The tone of the meeting was good and orderly throughout. The general feeling was that the Is fid gratuity was adequate, but the motion was carried as a protest against profiteering.
