STAR FOOTBALL CLUB.

SOCIAL AND PRESENTATIONS. The Star Football Club's social attd dance, which was held last night in the East End pavilion, was a most successful event. The floor, which was in excellent order, was crowded with dancers, the total attendance being about 250. Messrs W. Hardgreaves and J. Cross, in their capacity as M'sC., kept matters moving merrily to the music provided by Mr. George's orchestra. An excellent supper was provided by an enthusiastic committee of ladies, under the supervision of Mrs. Richards and Miss J. Hurley. During the supper adjournment Mr. James Clarke extended a very cordial welcome to the members of the club and others who had returned from active service, and also expressed the club's appreciation of the sacrifice made by those footballers who would never return, and sympathy with their relatives. He then presented to the captain of the Thursday first junior team (Mr. P. Sims) the Carbine Shield, which they had won. He remarked that the fact that the shield had not been competed for since the 1914 season showed where the footballers had been during the war period. The shield had now been competed for 14 times, and the Star and Tukapa Clubs had an equal number of inscriptions thereon. He regretted that Star had not been successful in winning the senior shield, and hoped they might do so next year. Mr. Clarke then made a presentation of a gold medal to the secretary of the club (Mr. J. A. Clark) from the members, in recognition of his splendid services iu reorganising the club at the beginning of the season. He said the club was to be congratulated upon having such a secretary. "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" wa3 sung and cheers were given for the secretary. The ladies also came in for a commendatory reference for the manner in which they had assisted tha bait com- ■ inittee, and they were thank?) with "For They are Jolly Good F?lWwa" antf
