McCurdy, Minister for Food, announces that the hew food order limitj the gTOss profits Of retailers on fish, fruit, and vegetables to 331-3 per cent. It was impossible to fix uniform prices for the Whole country. The controlled prices must rapidly be adjustable to meet sudden fluctuations in cost. Therefore the Government is empowering the local committees to regulate retail prices in their own districts. The new order operates on the 29th in certain Midland areas.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. IRISH GOVERNMENT BILL. ' TO BE PREPARED BY GOVERNMENT. Received Sept. 26, 1.40 a.m. London, Sept. 25. The Daily Express states that Cabinet to-day begins the preparation of an Irish Government Bill. EXCESSIVE PROFITS. ■ Received Sept. 26, 1.35 a.m. London, Sept. 24. The Board of Trade's investigations revealed excessive profits in certain branches of the wool industry, in some cases 400 per cent. The board ordered the Profiteering Department to take action.
