The result of the Taranaki-Wanganni representative football match came as a . great shock to local sports, who were , confident that Taranaki would more than t hold their own. The many friends of Constable Long- , bottom will be pleased to learn that lie . has recovered suliieiently from his recent i illness to undertake a journey to Wellington, where he will spend, a three , weeks holiday. Constable Nolan, of New Plymouth, is relieving hers. , Three returned men, Privates R. H. Baker and H. Robinson, both of Ingle- ! wood, and W. Egarr, of Dudley Road, ■ arrived on Tuesday afternoon. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Sutherland) received them at the railway station, which was crowded with friends. The Parish Hall was the scene of gaiety on Friday evening, when the married men's return social to the ladies was held- The floor was in excellent condition, whilst the music, supplied by Messrs. Stockman (clarinet), Lamb (cornet), and R. Spurdle (piano) was all that could be desired. The supper arrangements were complete in every detail. Extras were supplied by Misses M. and B. Esse, and Mr J. Sutherlanu. whilst the duties of M.C. were cfficienlty carried out by Mr. R. Buckley. A nice lino of 120 milch strain Jersey, Holstein and Shorthorn heifers, secured by a local buyer on behalf of a Waitoa settler, left here on Monday last cn route to the Thames district. There is a great demand for milch cattle just now, and further lots will be sent on the long overland trip during the next few weexs. Local land buyers- are still treking north. Recently one sold his farm here to advantage, and purchased an £BOOO property at Piako, Thames Valley. Mr Craig's Dudley Road farm has changed hands, Mr B. Fabish being the purchaser. The Rev. J. Dawson addressed a meeting in the interest of prohibition at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. The Mayor presided, and at the conclusion of the address, the lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Subsequently committee meeting was held to further the movement in this district. 1 The members of the ■ young ladies' i physical culture class held a very cn- ■ joyable social on Monday evening. Supper was provided by the ladies, and ! the music supplied by Mr. Ray Spurdle. ■ Subscriptions are coming in freely for the proposed Memorial Church fund, over f 1(100 being in sight, A meeting of the executive of the ' Inglewood Chamber of Commerce was ■ held on Monday. The chairman (Mr W. E. Precival) was delegated to represent Inglewood and support the New Plymouth scheme in supplying this district with eleetrie power, at the commission sitting in New Plymouth. Mr. K. Spurdle will represent, the chamber at Stratford on Thursday, and support flu 1 proposed universal Saturday half holiday for Taranaki. Privates H. Pennett. P. Evetts, and E. Rnvnor arrived heme this afternoon with their brides, and were met at the station by a host of friends, the party being warmly received. Private 11. Robinson returned yesterday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr. J. Sutherland, opened ihe bazaar which is being held 1 at the Druids' Hall in aid of the Methodist church funds The Te I\o,t soldier entertainers were well received here on Wednesday evening, the hall being packed. Their performance was highly appreciated by Inglewood folk.
