OPUNAKE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) At a public meeting held or. Friday evening in connection with hospital affairs, a resolution was carried in favor of separating from the Taranaki Hospital Board. During the discussion, an amendment was proposed that a request be sent to the Board to appoint two nurses to Egmont district, and also provide suitable accommodation, one nurse to be always at the home and one to visit outlying posts of the district. The amendment was well supported. The opinion is that if ratepayers only vote on this question it will be easily defeated. One optimistic opinion prevails that the harbor loan will he carried. The Opnnake Town Board, through the agency of the chairman and member for the district, has been able to borrow the £7,000 required for providing electric light and power for Opunake. It is reported, on good authority, that a county councillor, of Ihaia road fame, will be a candidate for the Egmont parliamentary seat. Mr R. Malcolm was given a farewell at Oaonui on Fridny evening. There was a large gathering. Mr Malcolm will reside in Opnnake.
