STEEL-WORKERS' STRIKE. ' By Telegraph.—Press Aajn Copyright. New York, Sept. 22. Five thousand steel trust employees will strike on account of the refusal of the management to consider a conference with a view to the settlement of grievances. Steel works are closing throughout the country. Strike riots have begun at Pittsburg. The police clubbed the strikers, shots were fired, and many injured. FRENCH LABOR CONFERENCE. Paris, Sept. 22. The French Labor Conference, by 1303 votes to 588, denounced the extremists who favored direct action, but initiated a new party aiming at tho widespread nationalisation of industry. —Aus.-N.Z.
