The animal report and balance sheet of the Standard Insurance Company, which was presented to a general meeting of the shareholders on September S, shows a very satisfactory year's business, the net income being £155,248 l'Js 7d, and the balance available for distribution £37,400 14s lid. In the course of his address the chairman of directors (Mr. W. F. Edmand) said the successful working of a business such as the company's in a large measure depended upon the care, application, and intelligence of those employed, and in that particular the company was very fortunate in being exceedingly well served.
