PENSIONS.
AN INCREASING AMOUNT TO BE it PROVIDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. States the Minister for Finance:— The amounts paid for pensions, other than reeent war pensions, during the year 1917-18 were as follow: Under Statutory Finance Total Pensions. Act. Pensions. £ £ £ Old nco pensions .. 452.4:tS 200,005 Tto.MS Widows' pensions .. 44.714 80,058 80,772 Maori War pensions 1(9,477 11,03 a 50„"il0 Miners' pensions .. 10,722 2,555 i:i,277 Totals 577,351 310,251 887,002 WAR PENSIONS. In the gross payments under this head there has been, as was of course oxpected, a heavy increase in the total, The figures are as follow: 1917-18, £515,447; 1918-19, £H,1P9,755. The total new claims to date, including those lodged during the year, are: From soldiers, 27,053; from dependants, 11,744 The annual liability at March 31, 1919, was £1,015,827, and the average pension is £59. The pensions granted to date number 34,071, and the annual value £2,289,333. It is estimated that an expenditure of £2,000,000 under this head will have to be provided for during the current year.
