A conference, at Righ, of Lettish, Esthonian, and Lithuanian statesmen accepted Lenin's offer to initiate peace negotiations. The decision aroused much dissent and some disorder—Aub.-N.Z. Cable Assn. BOLSHEVIKS DEFEATED. SUCCESS OF DENIKEN. Received Sept. 19, 7.45 p.m. London, Sept. 18. The Bolsheviks were severely defeated east of Goektepe, and their forces are hurriedly evacuating Askabad. The pri. soners captured on the Munnan and Archangel fronts since August number 4171. General Deniken continues his successes. General Wrengel hag regained the initiative before Tsaritsin. The Bolsheviks were forced to retire thirty mile#, losing many prisoners. KOLTCHAK 'S ARMY, Received Sept. 19, 7.45 p.m. London, Sept. 18. Admiral KoHchak's southern army suffered through desertions of Orenburg Cossacks to the enemy. They deserted rather than leave their native land. The Bolsheviks claim 45,000 deserters owing to the enforced retreat of the southern army. The Bolsheviks have opelied communication between Russia and Turkestan, thus securing a plentiful supply of foodstuffs. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. PEACE WITH BOLSHEVIKS. - Stockholm, Sept. 17. Esthonian peace negotiations commenced on the 15th. They deal with the regulation of the frontier and coinmercial relations with Russia. The Bolsheviks offer to recognise the independence of Estlionia. The Bolshevik newspaper Isvestia states that the Esthonians itmat give in, despite the Allied efforts to force them to continue the war by threatening to •stop food_ transport.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
