French newspapers state that the Supreme Council is determined to compel D'Annunzio to lay down arms, and is considering a blockade unless the Italian Government takes action. —Aug. N.Z. Cable Assoc. ACTION BY ITALIAN GOVERNMENT. LAND AND SEA BLOCKADE. Eeeeived Sept. 18, 9.45 p.m. Washington, Sept. 17. Official advices show that the Italian Government will establish a land and sea blockade against D'Annunzio and his followers at Fiume, hoping to bring D'Annunzio's soldiers to terms by starvation and without bloodshed. London, 1 Sept. 16. It is understood the situation at Fiume is quiet. The Italian Government is taking firm steps to prevent further incidents, Troops surround the town. The Government has dismissed the Prefect of Venice, where it is believed the plot was hatched. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. A BIG FORCE. PREPARED FOR A SIEGE. Received Sept. 18, 10.25 p.m. Home, Sept. 17. According to the Idea Nazionale, D'Annunzio commands ten thousand regulars, also four thousand Fiume volunteers, and has occupied the fortified line around Fiume, also all strategic positions. The local National Council seized all the stocks of food with a view of rationing the inhabitants for a siege.
