RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH. AUCKLAND EASILY DEFEATED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. _, Wellington, Last .Night. -fiio -Ranfurly Shield match, Wellington v. Auckland played at Athletic l'ark this afternoon was won by tho home team, holders ot the shield, by 24 points to 3. Between 8000 and 9000 spectators were present. Wellington's win was rather an easy one, outclassing their opponents in all departments and giving a really fine display. Had Wellington's goal kicking been or a higher standard they should have had at least nine more points than those usually obtained. The first spell ended 13 to nil. TARANAKI RUGBY UNION. AUCKLAND AMENDMENTS ENDOBSED. A meeting of delegates to tho Taranaki nugby Union from dubs to consider the Auckland alterations to rules and laws was held on Monday. Rule 2 of the New Zealand Union says: It shall affiliate with th e English Rugby Football On on and shall adopt the Laws of Football and tho Rules as to Professionalism as from time to time fixed by that bodv. The suggested amendment is: "That the words as from time to time fixed bv that bodv.' be deleted, and the following substituted thereof: But may mnko such modification as may bo deemed desirable In tho interests of tiio game." The chairman aald their Idea was that the New Zealand Union though still affiliated to tho English Union could make rules to suit tho local government of the game. The chairman said this waß on similar lines to Rule 2 amendment. It really set out that the Union could make alterations and bring thom intn force. The Auckland Union suggested that the Laws of the Game be altered as under:— Abolition of the "wing"' forward.
