ANXIETY OVER SITUATION. HOURLY BECOMES MORE DISTRUSTFUL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 14. The Times 5 correspondent points out that the murders in Ireland give no evidence of central direction and are attributable solely to local secret societies. Official Sinn Feiners strongly oppose crime and view the situation with silent anxiety, but are afraid to repudiate the young physical force section, lest they destroy the solidarity which is regarded as vitally indispensable. Soma prelates and priests condemn the outrages, but the results are inadequate, owing to the current tendency of the countryside to believe that crime is pardonable when committed in the nation's name. The usefulness of tho Government proclamation is questionable- Ireland grows hourly more distrustful and a settlement more difficult. Sir Horace Prunkett, in a letter to the Times, declares that the Irish Government has proved its incapacity to deal with the position.—Times. The London correspondent of the Manchester Guardian says that 70,000 soldiers and 12,000 police are searching Ireland for concealed arms. A week's search yielded only a few revolver.", and the Sinn Feiner's secret arsenals are apparently intact. It is reported that several Duiblia detectives are warned that they will share Hoey'a fate—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ■'
