BAKERS' STRIKE.

SYDNEY ON HALF RATIONS. By Telegranh.—Proas Assn —Copyright. Sydney, Sept. 17. Mr. Holman, referring to the bakers' strike, said that as it wa3 impossible to raise the price of bread, which would be necessary if the bakers' demands were conceded, the Government will do everything in its power to assist those endeavoring to supply the public with bread. The master bakers have decided to pool supplies, and hope to provide normal supplies bv the week-end. Owing to the failure of the conference the master bakers decline to make further proposals to the union. In the Assembly Mr. James announced that the Government was taking steps to see that the public was supplied with bread.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. Received Sept. 17, 9.50 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 17. ; Supplies of bread are increasing, although there .is only sufficient to place everyone on half rations. The bakeries were rushed by exoited crowds. At suburban shops queues a mile long waited for hours. All efforts to settle the dispute have failed. The men have submitted fresh proposals. The masters refused to negotiate unless the men returned under the old conditions. The strikers have handed over the control of the dispute to the officials of the Labor Council, which has decided to stand behind the men. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
