DAIRY COMPANIES.
TIRIMOANA. The annual general meeting o£ the TlrlJnoana Dairy Company was held at Elthara last week, when Mr. R. c. Treweek (chairman) presided over a lair attendance »'/ suppliers. The annual report stated that notlwithstandlng the rough spring of 1918 and corresponding short supply of milk the total milk supplied during tho season was almost as large as the previous season, and the amount of cheese manufactured was a little over three tons greater. The total payments made to suppliers over the season amounted to Is 9d per lh. butter-fat, while It was estimated that, when all the season's receipts were to hand, a further would be paid. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman said aa the company was only in its Infancy, that being the second year of Its existence, they should be particularly happy with Uielr position. Their average test had Improved, but the yield was too low, which had been the main "factor in keeping down their pay out. With good management an additional Id per lb. butter-fat could have been made. The whole of the plant at the factory had been overhauled, and the factory and its surroundings were now in good order. Owing to the amount sp;nt on improvements nothing had been allowed for depreciation. A water shortage had been overcome by sinking a well. Their fuel account showed a considerable Increase, chiefly owing to the fact that suppliers were having their whey heated, a practice which should be discontinued until fuel was more plentiful and cheaper. Mr. Jordan seconded, and after a brief discussion it was adopted unanimously. Messrs. A. R, Baldock and W. T. Mills were tho only nominations for two vacancies In the directorate, and were therefore duly declared elected. Mr. E. Parrott was re-appolnted auditor at the same enumeration as last year. An honorarium of £ls 15s was voted the chairman, and tho directors' fees were fixed a; the same amount as last yeajr, viz., 10s per meeting. Mr. f.. I£. Buckerldge was re-appointed secretary. There was some discussion regarding the reliability of tho scale at the factory, and the matter w»3 referred to tho directors to attend to. Mr. McWhlrter referred to the question of the possibility of establishing a store in connection with the company. Ho had obtained some Information regarding this matter, and expressed the opinion that It was a matter which should receive careful consideration in the near futuro. The chairman said tliey would have to consider not only the advisability of store-keeping, but the requirements of tho suppliers should be taken into consideration. They might commence by dealing in bulk commodities and a few everyday lines. At the subsequent meellng of directors, Mr. Treweek was re-elected chairman.—Argus.
