WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) September 16. Mr. E. A. Dugdale met with a painful accident ou Saturday by coming into collision with Mr. J. Robinson's motor car opposite the Masonic Hotel, while riding his push bike up the street. Mr. Dugdale says no blame is attachable to the driver of the car; it was just an unfortunate accident. The small bone of his arm was broken, his hand badly lacerated, and he was badly shaken, but managed after a short rest to go to New Plymouth to see a doctor. Two fine pieces of Maori carving are on view in Mr. T R. Ford's shop window. They were brought to light by Mr. C. G. Ayton while draining a piece of swamp land on his property. They are of totara, and appear to Tie portions of the end of a whare. After being on exhibit in the town for a few days they are to be forwarded to the museum in New Plymouth. A meeting of the Returned SoldioTsi Welcome Home Ball Committee was held last night, and the matter of catering was thoroughly gone into, and everything has been arranged to make it a successful event. The only disquieting thing about the affair is the uncertainty of shipping. The ball is to be held in Hatrick's building, which is half full of wool, and the committee were relying on this being cleared out before now;'but the boat is not expected until the latter end of the week, and should it be delayed the ball may have to be postponed for a week.
