DESTRUCTIVE DROUGHT.

meat farmers in conference By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Sept. 18. The chairman of tile Farmers' Conference estimated,, the losses of stock during the last drought at eight millions. The conference of meat exporters and farmers of the Commonwealth discussed the termination of the existing contracts for the sale of the exportable surplus of meat, and also the possibility of new contracts. A deputation then waited on Mr. Hughes and submitted resolutions which stated that the producers were entitled to the world's parity for all exporting surplus produce. They urged that, instead of having four separate bargaining Governments, it was advisable that Mr. Hughes should open negotiations, the price and conditions to be approved by the exporting State. Mr. Hughes, in reply, promised every •assistance.—Aub._N.Z." Cable Assn.
