MARKET BEPOHT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. (Stratford branch) report at follows : On Friday, August 29, wd held our usual monthly sale in our Tarata yards. There was a fair yarding, mostly of young cattle; nearly every pen sold at tho hammer or Immediately afterwards. Prices were on a par with recent ruling rates. Fat cows £lO to £ll 4s, empty heifers £5 to £7 J2s Od, yearling steers £3 7s Cd to £5 os, dairy cows £ll lis to £l4 15s, springing heifers £8 15* to £ll Gs. Our next sals In theso yards wilt be held on Friday, September 20th. On Tuesday, September 2, we held our usual fortnightly sale In our Stratford yards. We had a fair yarding, but bidding was dragging somewhat and several lines failed to reach reserves; dairy stock of a backward nature failed to rbcelve much attention. Small wethers 28s, cull hoggets 17a 6d, storo cows £5 10s to £8 7s, empty heifers £7 12a, yearling heifers £4 2s Cd to £5 Ba, dairy cows £ll 15s to £ls 15s, springing heirers £9 lo £ls. A small lino of Jersey yearling heifers £7 17s. Our next sale in these yards will be held on Tuesday, September 10, at 1 o'clock. Clearing Sale.—On September 4th., wo hold a clearing sale on account of Mr, Angus Fraser, of Batapiko, who has sold his farm to tho Government for a soldiers' settlement. Buyers were in attendance from all parts of the district. Competition was keen throughout and everything realised satisfactory prices. The cows and heifers were low In condition and backward in calving. Dairy cows £8 to £22, dairy heifers £6 to £2O, hoggets 20s 3d, owes and lambs 39s 6d, wethers 37s 3d; horses, unbroken fillies £2l to £3O ss, unbroken colts £l7 10a to £2O, mares £9 15s to £l7, machinery, Massey Hassey drill £2s 10s, tripod harrows £lO, cultivator £2O, discs £l2, hay rnke £l2, binder £lO. Private Sales—With the spring at hand we hove increasing enquiry for all lines of stock, which are selling at very satisfactory values. Sinco we last reported wo have sold the following lines privately: Hoggets 21s to 27s Cd, wethers 20s to 34s 6d, ewes in lamb 25s to 355, bullocks £l3 5s to £l4, springing holfers £l2 to £l7, dairy cows £l4 to £24, mixed yearlings £4.
