AUCKLAND v. TARANAKI. TO-MORROW'S BIG HATCH. Keen intcrst is being taken throughout Taranakl In the representative match to be played at the Recreation Grounds, New Plymouth, to-morrow afternoon between Auckland and Taranakl. This fixture lias always been a very popular one with Taranakl football enthusiasts, who regard It as the star item of the year,, and it is certain tli.it the Aucklanders will, despite the unavoidable postponement, find a great gathering to meet them on their re-visiting Taranakl after a lapse of six years. Additional interest is being lent to tile visitors' appearance here this year by the knowledge of the new game they are playing. The Auckland team, which will be Iho strongest the northerners can send, is also going on to Wellington In nuest of the fianfurly Shield, will arrive here to-morrow morning. The Tnranaki team as chosen is thoroughly representative, and can be relied upon to give a good display, and doubtless will do its best to retrieve itself after the heavy defeat inlllcted by the northerners three weeks ago. DAN O'BBIEN SHIELD MATCH. With a continuance of fine weather die ground should be in good order. If no, the Star-Tukapa Dan O'Brien Shield match will be played as a curtain raiser, starting at 1.30 p.m. • THE CARBINE SHIELD. The following Star juniors are requested to attend this week-end practice in preparation for the coming match for the Carbine Shield;— Harvey, Casey, Huru, Lee, Cliff, Sims, Deane, Kettlewell, Hooker, Lowry, Bowler, Owens', Courtney, AWnms, Faiwasscr, Haldane, Hurley, Crone, Clark. Bedford, and Way. The team will be chosen from those only attending. THE HIGH SCHOOL TEAM. . The High School team that lowered the colors of tho Auckland (irammar School recently were Iho guests at a little dinner given by supporters and friends of the School at May and Arrowsmith's last evening. Dr. Fookes presided, and the health of tho team, the school, the old boys, and kindred sports was honored in the customary way, felicitious references being made to the success of ihe team and the school. During the evening, the headmaster (Mr. \V. H Moyes) was presented by the promoters of the evening's function with a framed enlarged photograph of the team, a fine piece of work, which Mr. Moyes, in acknowledging, said he as well as the school woiilcTtreasure, marking as it did an occasion that would not soon he forgotten. Songs and stories made up an Interesting and enjoyable two hours.
Owing to the representative match to-morrow, the Hnwera-StmU'nrd seniors play off match has been postponed, and will probably take place next week.
