A meeting of townspeople decided to reaueet military protection. Colonel Dows in a speech said that, as- feeling was running high the troops would be confined to barracks. The fact remained thai they were in a state approximating to war. The jury's verdict that the murderers did not kill was absurd. They had not the pluck to say it was murder. Tho townspeople seemed to think the sohttsrs ought to sit down and not make reprisals. Fennoy Jived on the military, otherwise they would live by taking in each others' washing. The remark caused an uproar. Three further arrests have been made la connection with the murder. Sifter O'Donoghue, Catholic administrator, in a speech at the town meeting, «aid everybody regretted and condemned Sunday's outrage.
