General AHenby, interviewed, said the Emir Said was arrested because lie disregarded the regulations. He defied martial law, and worked against the administration of the military. The occupation question was exclusively a military one. Britain had no ambition in respect to Syria. She always refused to ask for a mandate, recognising that the right belonged to Prance. All was now quiet in Syria.—Aus.-N.Z. Gable Assn. NAVAL REDUCTIONS. Received Sept. 11, 1 a.m. London, Sept. 10. The Admiralty has ordered the Home Fleet battleships and fourth and fifth destroyers flotillas to be reduced to the reserve basis on October Ist., and a similar reduction in the twentieth flotilla after its return from the Baltic. The submarine flotillas attached to the Atlantic fleet Will be reduced to three.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. FREE FIGHT AMONGST WOMEN WORKERS. Received Sept. 11, 1 a.m. London, Sept. 10. There were disorderly scenes, culminating in a free fight, at the women workers' meeting in Glasgow. Mr. Henderson and Mr. J. H. Thomas were howled down.
