A COACH ACCIDENT.
A WOMAN KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. CJisbcrrfle, Last Night. An accident to the 'folaga Bay coach near Tatapouri to-day resulted in the death of Mrs. James, wife of the licensee of the Pakftrae Hotel, and injuries to the coach driver, Tom Bushnell, an elderly man, and George Nelson, a passenger. Inspector Massack, of the Hawke's Bay police, who wrs a passenger on a second coach, states that Mrs. James hnd a bpy aged three joined the first coach fropi Tatapouri Hotel. There were three passengers, Mrs. James, the little boy, Md Nelson. Soon after the second coafch left Tatapouri Nelson was seen coming back in a dazed condition, his face covered with blood, and carrying a littjle boy in his arms. As the coach abproached he cried out: ."They are all dead tin the road!" Massack went forward, and found Mrs. James dead. Her neck appeared to have been broken. The driver, Bushnell, was lying on th.' road unconscious. Bushnell regained consciousness, and afterwards complained of pains in his stomach. He was bleeding profusely about the face. The injured and dead were removed to the Tatapouri Hotel. As the second coach proceeded to Gisborne the first coach was seen to have been capsized in the channel near Hillside, one horse being beside it with a broken leg The other horses had kicked themselves free and were galloping along the road.
Lato to-night Bußhnell and Nelson were removed from Tatapouri to the Cook Hospital in a delirious state. The medical opinion is that there was nothing at present to indicate very serious injuries, but, complications may occur. The boy was slightly cut about the face.
