monthly meeting, A meeting was hold in the Soldiers' Club last night. Mr. C. E, Bellringer (chairman) presiding. Others present Were: Mrs, C. n. Burgess (Mayoress) and Messrs Harris, Ford, R. C. Hughes, W. A. Collis, A. S. Brooker, and W. F. Short. Mr. W. W. Smith, curator, jn his report, stated that during the mouth tho work done was chiefly clearing old trees and grubbing and seeding gorse. Trees condemned ou the west slope of Cameron Hill had bean removed, and the whole planted down to the lower lakes. A short walk had been formed to the water-lily lake, and should prove convenient to ladies and nurses with young children. Tree ferns awl a, good selection of the finest native trees had been planted on tho slopes. The sports ground had been improved and cleaned, and tV> upper lake cleared of all weeds and overhanging vegetation. A donation of £5 had been received from a recent arrival in Now Plymouth, the donor not desiring his name to be published. Donations of native trees and a collection of annuals had been received, and Mrs. Burgess had also donated six new varieties of hydrangeas. The general vegetation of the park was showing, good* growth.—Report adopted and votes of thanks passed for donation to the board's funds and trees, etc. An application from tho Taranaki Workers' Council for the use of Pukekura Park for a monster sports gathering on Labor Day (October 27) was granted on the usual conditions.
The Taranaki Rugby Union applied for the use of the Recreation Sports Ground on Thursday for the match Auckland v, Taranaki. The union also desired to know whether the board was prepared to consider an application for the re-constitution of the old Recreation Sports Ground Committee. Members were sympathetic with the union's request for the ground at a lower rate than usually charged, and the chairman's action in this direction was confirmed. The question of the re-constitu-tion of tho old committee was deferred to a future meeting. The buard are in need of an honorary secretary, and trust that, amongst the inhabitants of the town, an enthusiast will be found who is prepared to undertake the duties.
