A RACE FOR TANKS. A RAILWAY ACCIDENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—CopyriEOt. Received Sept. 1, 11.35 p.m. Paris, Sept. 6. Baron von Leraner has been appointed German Charge d' Affaires. A race for tanks over the Alps has been organised by France to test the practicability of tractioning the mountain routes A railway accident occurred at St. Jory, near Toulouse. The poorness of the coal caused the train to lose time and finally to stop. The, Bordeaux express, travelling at fifty miles an hour, crashed into the rear of the train, wrecking several carriages. Eighteen were killed and forty-three injured. The music hall managers, locked out their employees. Probably the theatres will follow next week, as a protest; against the employees demanding an increase. The managers are determined not to accede to the demands of the union*. oosrr of the war.
ITCANCE« SHAKE OP THE INDEMNITY. Received Sept. 7, 11.35 p.m. Paris, Sept. 6. 11 Klotz, in the Chamber, said the cost Of the war was forty thousand millions sterling. The Allies' share was twentyseven thousand millions. Fiance would receive eighteen and a half thousand millions (t) in thirty-six years if Germany paid up, and he believed she would. —Aus. N.Z.
