The' Hon. Geo.: Fowlds, of Auckland, spent she week-end in New Plymouth I and leaves for the south this morning. At Saturday's meeting of the Moa Road Board, satisfaction was expressed I at the appointment of Mr J. B. Hine, |M.P., aa a;Cabinet Minister, and it was decided to send him a letter of congratulation. I Mrs. 'Cowen, wife of the Rev. U. HGrant Cowen, of Hawera, and her daughter, Miss Doris Cowen, arrived in England by the Corinthic. and are staying with Mrs. Cowen's mother, Mrs. T. J. Russell, at Grenviile, Upper Clapton, NX, says a London correspondent. Flag Captain H. D. Williams, M.C., and his wife arrived in Hawera on Saturday. Captain Williams was three times mentioned in despatches. He won the Military Cross and was promoted to flag captain for bravery in France.. He "is a son of Mr. Wm. Williams, of Mer,emere. At Stratford on Saturday a deputation | waited on Mr. Robert Masters with n request that he contest the Stratford seat in the Liberal interests at the forthcoming elections. Mr. Masters said he could support the progressive policy recently outlined by Sir Joseph Ward, and decidod to accede to the wishes of the deputation. Mr. Massey has now been Prime Minister for over seven years, having taken office on July 10, 1912. This tenure of office is longer than that of any other New Zealand Prime Minister except Mr. Seddon, who held Ministerial rank for nearly fifteen and a half years and was the head of a Government for just over thirteen years. Sir Joseph Ward's term as Prime Minister was just over five and a half years, but his three spells pf Ministerial office aggregate seventeen and a half years.
