CORRESPONDENCE.
HOMES FOR SOLDIERS.
. 1 (To the Editor.) ] Sir,—Many schemes nro afoot, to-day for "War Memorials," and it seems to me that tliii majority are eitremely selfish and fos the sole benefit of gome church, town, or association , who arc not ashamed to appeal for runds for' themselves and use the dead bodies of our gallant soldiers, to gain their ends. Memorial* for this groat war ought to take the form of doing something for the soldiers themselTei". and would it not he a good plan for ever* town and city to create a "General Memorial Fund," and with the money build homes for soldiers who have fortunately returned, and later on the money from rents could be used to erect oilier'memorials or bo used to beautify the schools and public buildings of their town? Our married returned soldiers in most towns cannot find oven a dog's kennel to live in, and yet we that have stopped at home have built or acquired fine homes for ourselves and mostly 'from war profits. Do you not think, sir, that war memorials should be homes for soldiers and thus prove our gratitude?—l am, etc. J. NORMS; ' ■ , Hon, Organiser. • Masterton, Sept.-1.
