Lord Chelmsford, opening the Legislative Council, said the final decision on the Turkish peace terms was awaite4 With keenconcern by their Moslem fellow subjects in India. The views of the latter had bees placed with strong emphasis before the Imperial Government. Referring to the grave events that had Ireeently disturbed India, Lord Chelmsford said no Government could deviate from the policy which it regarded as essential because of threats, and prompt measures had quelled the disorders. Dealing with the peace treaty with Afghanistan, the Governor-General said that India had no design on Afghanistan and would give her friendship with pleasure if Afghanistan proved worthy of . it, but we would not force ourselves upon her. He paid a tribute to the troops engaged fn the Mesopot&mian and Afghanistan campaigns and foreshadowed measures ijr * establishing the stability of the rupee, Also dealing with labor and commercial matters and industrial and educational development—Renter.
