SPRING FLOWER SHOW.

ST. MARY'S CHURCH. ' The annual exhibition of Spring flowers in connection with St. Mary's Church, New Plymouth, was opened yesterday afternoon, and proved a worthy successor to previous shows. Though perhaps there are not quite the number of blooms staged that there were last year, the quality of the exhibits is of an exceedingly high order, and the hall presented a most attractive appearance.. The production of the flowers shown reflects the greatest credit on those enthusiasts in horticulture who make a special point of growing their bulbs for St. Mary's annual show, The exhibits are well staged so as to avoid overcrowding, and ample space 1 has been allotted for tiie children's competitive classes, in which a large number of entries have been received, all bearing testimony to the cultivation of an artistic temperament engendered by such competitions. Mrs. C. H. Weston and A. Alexander acted as judges. Among the exhibition displays, that by Mr. S. \V. Shaw, which occupies the whole length of the western wall, is amongst the most conspicuous- It, includes a large variety of splendidly grown daffodil and narcissi, interspersed with the more modest primrose and violets as well as freisias, and hyacinths, and flowering pot plants. Mrs. J. If. h'rethey's large and varied .oxhibit occupies the whole width of the back of the stage, and includes practically the whole range of spring flowers. A beautiful spray of almond blossom as a centre pieces makes a very distinctive effect. Messrs. Duncan and Davies, Ltd., Westown Nurseries, have, as usual, a fine collection of the season's flowers in their display, including bulbs, pot plants, etc. Mr. J. Gibson, of Frankley Koad, shows some particularly fine daffodils and .narcissi, and a basket of red camelias of rare beauty.

Among the smaller exhibits are displays by Mr. T. French, Mr. M. Ellerm, ranunculus and anenomes being a striking feature of the latter's exiiibit, while Mr. Bcsley, Mrs. Alexander, and Mr. flenry Weston also show some fine blooms- 'The feature of Mrs. Cordon's stand are particularly fine specimens of magnolia stellata, the amaryths, and a beautiful giant freisia.

There is in addition to the flowers a variety stall, with all kinds of articles from artistic fancywork down to mquisites of common da-ily use, a flower stall, and an afternoon tea stall. The ladies in charge are as follow: Variety, Miss Devenisli, Mesdames Skinner, Courtenay, and Dodgsluin; (lowers, Messrs. E Hammond and 0. Shaw; afternoon tea, Mrs. Peach, Misses Godfrey, Curtis. Wilson, Nixon, and Ruebe. There was a large gathering in the afternoon, but at night the attendance was a little disappointing. The proceeds from the show are to be devoted to the Peace Memorial Fund.
