LORD JELLICOE.
MINISTERS OBJECT TO SUNDAY INTERVIEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Yesterday. The members of the Ashburton County Council desired to meet Lord Jellicoe at Rakaia on Sunday and welcome him on his way to Timaru, and accordingly telegraphed to Lord Jellicoe a 9 to whether he would receive them. The Ashburton Ministers' Association, who are opposed to a welcome on Sunday, sent the following telegram to the Admiral: "We learn with deep regret that you are travelling south on Sunday and have expressed the wish to interview public bodies. We respectfully remind you that our late King on his visit to India refrained from any Sunday receptions, and hope you will maintain the best traditions of the Navy in its loyalty to both God and the King." The telegram was signed by six ministers. LotA Jellicoe's secretary replied that Lord Jellicoe was asked by the county council if lie would receive the members at Bakaia, and no wish was expressed by him, that he should be publicly received. The secretary further suggested that the ministers' protest should be addressed to the county council.
It is understood that a welcome will be accorded as originally intended.
