The Pope, in a letter to the French Bishops, discussing the growing tendency towards democracy among various nations as the result of war, deprecates excesses which Will finally be detrimental to the workers themselves. The church had always" befriended those in distress, hence the bishops should favor the claims of the proletariat, but within the limits of justice and honesty. Soman Catholics are exhorted to unite among themselves and with citizens of goodwill—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
