OPUNAKE CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Opunake Uacing Club was held on Friday. There was an attendance of 18 members. Mr. A. uooa, president of the club, presided. The annual report and balance-sheet for tne season 1918-9 stated, inter.alia, that the annual race meeting, held on March 17, was in \*ay a success. The club was favored wlin flue weather and a large attendance, whicn resulted in increased revenue from the totali-. fntor and gates, as disclosed by the balancesneet. Tho Ground Committee proceeded with the grading and forming of the new racing and training tracks immediately after the meeting, and both of these are now down in grass. Great difficulty has been experienced in procuring fencing material, and an order placed in May : for posts has not yet been completed. The, new racing track is over one mile in circumference, and owing to tho favorable nature of the ground should develop into one of the nnest tracks in the province. The matter of the pew grandstand and other appointments is receiving attention, and plans have been submitted to the committee by the architects. It Is to be hoped that the club will be able to complete the Improvements before next March, tut the railway embargo on everything but essentials, and labor difficulties, may carry the undertaking entirely out of control. e fnlance-sheet disclosed a satisfactory position. Election of officers for the ensuing year resulted aa follows: President, Mr. A. Good; vice* presidents, Messrs. M. J. Brennan, G. BarrBrown, J. M. Hickey, and .T. Young; judge, Mr. a. Morrin; hon. timekeeper, Mr. J. Bennett; as-slstant timekeeper, Mr. R. Baker; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. Clarke; auditor, Mr. D. Markham ; hon. surgeon, Dr. Watt; committee, Messrs G. Barr-Brown, A. Clarke J. Young, V. Julian, E. S. Forsyth, E. L. Thorpe, G. Hammond, S. Richards, and D. Campbell; clerk of the course, Mr. G. Newsham. The following new members were elected: Messrs E. Vincent, .T. Dunn, and A. R. Moore. Messrs. Dufflll nnd Gibson, architects to tho ciub, submitted the plans of proposed now buildings and alterations at tho course; also estimates for buildings to be erected la concrete. A lengthy discussion ensued, and it v.-as ultimately decldod to go on with tho election of the lawn grandstand in concrete. The following motion w«s carried without dissent: That tho grandstand scheme for lawn be proceeded with, provided 75 por cent, of approved members sign a joint and several, and provided, further, that the bank will provide tie necessary finance on such joint and several. I. was decided that Messrs. G. Barr-Brown and P. Julian be a committee to wait on members for signature and approach, the bank to give effect to the above proposal, It was decided to accept the suggestion of the Racing Conference in the direction of remunerating the judge, the fee for the coming meeting being fixed at £7 7s.
MEETING OP t COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee was held subsequently, at which the following business was transacted: Mr. E. S. Forsyth was unanimously elected chairman of committee, and accounts trailing £169 16s 2d were passed for. payment Mr. S Kraetzer was engaged as race detective at a fen of £l2 12s. It was decided to support Te Kultl Racing Club in its effortß for restoration of second day permits to country clubs. The following gentlemen were appointed a Course Committee: Messrs. E. S. Forsyth, D. Campbell, S. Richards, and G. Barr-Brown. It was decided that one ton of special grass r-pnure be procured for top-dressing the course.—Star.
