- - - . VIEWS ON THE TREATY, OPPOSITION ON ALL SIDES. By Telegraph.—Pfess Af-n —Copyright Received Sept. 2, 7.30 pjo. London, Sept. 1. The Westminster Gazette's Paxil correspondent states that, although there is no doubt that the French Parliament will accept the Treaty, there it opposition en all' sides. One section recommend* ratification, but tbe Treaty is considered as constituting a damaging « blow at the methods and results of the [ Conference, There are already minor modifications of tbe Treaty, such as the treatment of priaoprs, the policing of tipper Silesia, the slower demobilisation of the Gorman army, and more vital
changes. There is a prospect that the critics will protest that France's territorial claims arc not met,, but instead are the nebulous terms ofth» reparation clauses, which •hilt authority to other bodies and leave nearly everything to the future. This affords the chief cause for uneasiness. Hie,absence of the Allied pooling arrangement is causing regret, the shadowy pmiafaha aft to the financial future provoking alarm. Meanwhile the doctribain Socialists declare the Treaty is reactionary, harsh, and vindictive.—Aus.jIX Cable Assn.
