a. AND P. SOCIETY'S COMPETITION; CONDITIONS. A meeting of the sub-committee appointed by the Taranakl Agricultural Society to consider the home kitchen garden competition was held on Saturday, and nftcr careful consideration the following decisions worn arrived at : I.—Area under cultivation to oe quarter ncra and under within the Borntigli of New Plymouth, merits only, not me bulk of the crops to be considered. 2. —No outside labor to be employed for cultivating or planting. (Note: Outside labor Is permissible for first digging only). 3.—Gardens to be judged during ihe month of November, and at such other times as the society may decide:

4.—Points to bo allocated as follows : Cleanliness and. cultivation; system of cropping and general appearanco; peas, potatoes, kumaras, winter greens (Includinc snvovs and silver beet] ; broccoli, onions, shallots, paißnips, parrots, beet, long or round—eoeh 10 points. Broad beans, runner, and dwarf, kidney beans: cabbages (cooking), cauliflowers, turnips, vegetable marrows and pumpkins—eacli 8 points. Cabbages .(red), celery, cucumbers, leeks, rhubarb, kale (any variety), tomatoes, brusselß sprouts, lettuce—-each G points. Artichokes (globe or tuberous), and spinach—each 4 points.

Jlerbs (including parsley, mint, sago, etc.), horao radish, radishes, and small salads, and anything not enumerated—each :1 points.

Note.—The greater the variety of vegetables grown noli the greater the number of points recorded, but the minor sorts, as counting the least, should only be grown in small quantities, the more useful in large bulk, not only because they count more, but because thoj are more serviceable. Prizes.—First £4, second £3, third £2,. fourth £l. Entry fee ss. .. Entries close on October 31, 1910. Arising out of the abovo, a further competition will be held This competition will be included In the Winter Show schedule, and It will be necessary for entrants to make their entry on the form supplied at the back of the Mhedule and stating the class ns denoted Vn jamo.
