DRUM AND PIPE BAND.
INVITED TO NEW PLYMOUXE
A number of citizens of New Plymouth yesterday waited upon the Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) to ask him if he would I invite the drum and fife band of EMS New Zealand to New Plymouth. This band, which the vessel Carrie's in addition to the military band, hag been heard in Wellington by two local citizens, and it has been felt that, as neither the ship nor Lord Jellicoe can -visit New Plymouth, an effort might be successfully made to secure a visit; from this section of the ship's company, which would be highly appreciated by the public of the town.
Mr. Burgess pointed out that the battleship was leaving Wellington for i/yttelton on Sunday, but the gentlemen who met the Mayor reminded him that she would be back again at Wellington and also would visit Auckland, and it might be possible for the men to come here while the ship was at either of these ports. Mr. Burgess agreed to send a telegraphic invitation, if the deputation would undertake to guarantee the expenses of the visit. This was agreed to.
