RICH GOLD FIND. Received Aug. 29, 8.10 p.m. Ottawa, Aug. 28. Reports from Manitoba state that a gold claim was struck near Copper Lake —a six feet wide vein, a four inch streak of quartz and gold showing. The determined volume is 60 per cent, of gold. Thousands are rushing to Copper Lake.
POTASH FOR BRITISH FARMERS. Received Aug. 30, 12.5 a.m. London, Aug. 28. Forty thousand tons of German potash salts, acquired by the Government for British farmers, will arrive during the next fortnight, and will relieve the wartime shortage of fertilisers, which appreciably affected the harvester.—Aus.N.Z.
