They number 40,000, are seasoned, well led, and well' equipped, and they consider themselves the personal following of the Baltic Barons, to whom they art. undoubtedly intensely loyal. They bate the -Government, which fears them Its a future weapon of reactionary movejnentu The Independent Socialists have long urged the Government to disband them, but the Government frankly admits they are beyond control, and content* itself with pointing out that the jUlitf peace, terms moat be fulfilled.

1 CONFLICTING REPORTS. BOLSHEVIKS IN BAD POSITION. London, Aug. 28. It is stated that, notwithstanding Bolshevik wireless reports, Denikin continues to make satisfactory progress. His forces advanced withtgreat rapidity towards Kief! and its fall is apparently only a matter of days. Denikin's army is within twelve miles of Petlura's troops at Vassiter.
