DIRECTING EMIGRATION.

BRITISHERS FOR THE DOMINONS. By Telegraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright. London, Aug. 27. An Overseas Settlement Department has been established by the Imperial Government with the view of directing the emigration of ex-service men to the Dominions rather than to foreign countries. Already the Department has received about 1200 applications. About 75 per cent, of the applicants desire to go to Canada, the balance to Australia and New Zealand. Many'of the latter have inquiries with regard to facilities for fruit-growing. The applicants for Australasia have been referred to the respective agencies, owing to tha fact that no arrangements have yet been possible for sending them overseas until the Dominions are ready to receive them.
