GOITRE IN SCHOOL CHILDREN.
REMEDIAL TREATMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. ' The serious spread of goitre among children was impressed on the Wanganui Education Board to-night by Dr. VSiu* beth Gunn, Medical Inspector of School*. "I have," she reported, "examined ffltyfour girls, aged from eleven to fourteen, in one Wanganui school. Thirtyone of those girls have goitre, and twenty-three are without it. Oat of those 54 girls, 26 were physical deformities. The girls are tired and lackadaisical. Their mothers complain that is the result of home lessons." Dr. Gunn then outlined the course of treatment which she is proposing to the Education Department. She would like to take, say, fifty girls, aged 11 W 14, medically examine them, measure their neck, etc., with special attention to-«iie, and the shape of goitres, and tilts have them given some iodine every day. Thji should be given once a day for five days at school for six months. She Would alto have SO girta of the same age and eh\»» who would get no medicine. The comparison at the end of the period would, she was sure, show the value of iodine.
