HOOTS FOR MR. HERRIES.
TIRED CROWD WAITS FOR TRAIN TO START. There was an unprecedented scene at the l.ambton railway station on Saturday evening (says the Wewmjrtiu. Times). Shortly before 0 o'clock the platform was crowded with passengerswaiting to board the 0.14 o'clock tiuin for Petone, Lower Hutt and stations as far as Upper Hutt. A train backed in at 0.10 o'clock and there was a wild rush for seats, but tne accommodation was not sufficient. Passengers stood in the passages, and on the platforms of the carriages. Half an hour went by and as there was no sign of the train moving out inquiries were made. The report was that the engine had broken down and that there was not another one available despite the fact that the engine-running-shed contained several locomotives. To make use of one of (hose engines steam would have to be jot up. At last the passengers became impatient, and said nasty things about the administration. Parodies on popular music-hall songs were sung, in which tlm names of the Minister for Railways »" * the General Manager were introduced, and those gentlemen were "counted out," till hundreds of voices grew husky. A motor-bus was secured and departed with a full load, while many would-be train passengers left the platform in disgust. At 7.45 o'clock (one hour and thirtyone minutes late) the train moved out, and a hungry crowd gave final expression to their feelings by hooting.
