HELPLESS DRUNKENNESS.
STRANGE BEHAVIOUR NEAR I TIKORANGI. [ Frank Harrington, who was recently before the Court at New Plymouth on a charge of drunkenness, at Okato, when it transpired he had been drinking methylated spirits, appeared before Mr WV ?.!. MoKean, S.M., yesterday morning on a similar charge, the occurrence having taken place on Sunday on the Main Road, Tikorangi. Sub-Inspector Hutton stated that the man was carrying on in a strange manor, and the police were communicated with. When Constable Lapouple arrested him he had a bottle of methylated spirits in his possession. He had just boon released from serving a sentence of one mouth in Ihe New Plymouth gaolAccused, who pleaded guilty, said he was on his way out to work. He might .'lave been a bit lively on the road, but be was not insulting or anything like that. He undertook that nothing of the kind would occur again. He always carried methylated spirits for polishing. The Magistrate: But you don't use it for polishing.
Accused was convicted and fined 40s and ordered to pay 25s expenses, in default one month's imprisonment.
