NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE. The General Purposes Committee met last, evening. Present: Crs. Coliis (in tlie chair), J. Clarke, P. J. Hill? J. W. Haydcn, F. W. Short, A. S. Brookcr, R. Parkin, and H. V. Griilitlis. J. Blair Mason, consulting engineer, stated that he had found it impossible to get the survey in connection with the hydro-electric extensions completed, owing to the extent of the work and also on account of the weather conditions. He hoped to have the tunnel approach and head works completed this week —Received.
F. W. Frethey, New Plymouth, desired the council to grant him a freehold title to portion of Holdsworthy road, between llrooklac.ls and the Old Carrington Road. He did not deßiro a lease, and intended to make extensive alterations to his property if the ground mentioned is made freehold.—Referred to Streets SubCommittee.
The Railway Department declined to grant tho council's request for permission to erect more cottages on the railway reserve held by the councilReceived.
Alex. Page wrote resigning his position on tho council's staff, being desirous of returning to Auckland, and ho asked to bo. released from duties on October I. Resignation accepted as from October 1. 0. J. Howarth, secretary of the Soldiers' Hostel {Ball Committee, desired that the council should make no charge for electric light on that occasion.— Granted.
