FARM AND DAIRY.
HERD-TESTING FIGURES. The Hawera Cow-testing Association provides somo Interesting figures for the season 1.118-11). Mr V. 11. Nowell secured the fine average of 352.01 for 50 cows for an average of 283 days. Tlio average nt the Whareroa factory from ?,S9 cows In 2:1(1 days was 262 89 fat. The best Individual cow mado 557.20 In :,20 days, and the average of the Ave best cows In the Association was 478 35 in 235 dr.ys, and tho average of Ihe five worst was 80.74 in 114 dnys. Figures like the above demonstrate the value of testing, and It Is finite clear that if production la going to be materially Increased many cows must yet be culled out In Tarannki. Many farmers "still cling to the belief that they can toll which are their best cows and which are poor hut-ter-fat producers, but, as Mr Hodge remarked nt tho Allon Dairy Company's meting, there Is only one sure way and that is by the Bab. cock tost. The sooner farmers take hold of Hint very important point the sooner may we expect groater production.—Star.
