WIDNES BY-ELECTION. By Telegraph.—rress Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 24, 11.0 p.m. , London, Aug. 23. Mr. Henderson is opposing Mr. P. M. B. Fisher for the Widnea bv-election. He declared in connection with his visit to Russia in 1917 that Cabinet had authorised him to Te»laco the ambassador at Petrograd at a salary of £BOOO. He ascertained Cabinet's dissatisfaction with the ambassador was due to a misapprehension. Therefore he refused the post. He subsequently resigned his Cabinet Ministership, attaching to which was a salary of £SOOO, rather than sacrifice his principles.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asm.
