EXPLOSION AT WORKSHOP.
PANIC AT PICTURE THEATRE NARROWLY AVERTED. By Telegraph —Press Asin Copyright, Christchurch, Aug. 2.1 This afternoon the people in Cathedral Square were startled by a terrific explosion which occurred at premises occupied by W. G. Bull, a typo niter expert, of. Chancery Lane, adjo' iij» Everybody's Picture Theatre, whirl! was holding a session at the time. The audience in* eluded many children, who eoni siderably startled, a panic being narrowly averted. The wholo of Bull's workshop and office was badly damaged, A youth named Charles McGl&shan was cleaning a typewriter with benzine, which ignited and caused the explosion. McGlashan was badly burnt about the face, and had several severe cuts, so he was removed to the hospital, Laige sections of the walls of the workshop were blown out, and the ceiling 1 fell in, All the windows in the immediate vicinity were shattered, and the Wall of the dividing workshop from Everybody's Theatre bulged out, but did not collapse.
