STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent) (All communications, letters., etc., left with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention). A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the general committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held on Saturday. Mr. R. Dingle presided over a fair attendance of members. It was decided to delete from the schedule the vegetable and garden classes^ A recommendation by the executive that the class for bacon be cut out was adopted. The secretary reported that since last meeting fourteen new members had been elected. In company with the president, he had visited Kaponga, where the names of six new members had been taken. On Thursday they had visited part of Bird and Skinner Roads, and the remainder of the district would be visited as time and and opportunity permitted. The president again impressed upon members the necessity for obtaining new members whenever possible. Correspondence was received from three different associations giving details of the system adopted in issuing members' tickets. The Manawatu Association issued no tickets until the subscriptions had been paid. Havvera made it a rule not to send a ticket to a member who had not paid the subscription for the previous year. The Taranaki Metropolitan Show Committee discriminated between financial members and unfinandal members. The latter were sent two ladies' tickets and a pass, which was a gentle reminder that the subscription was due and must be paid before obtaining a member's privileges. The president said the matter was one on which the executive would like directions from the general committee. He favored the adoption of the Hawera system. Mr. Dagg moved that no tickets be issued to members who have not paid their subscriptions. Mr. Needham favored the Hawera system, which gave a year's grace. The failure of some to pay was due to carelessness or forgetfulness.

Mr, Boon contended that no man had a right to expect the privileges of membership if he did not pay his subscription, There wati a special office at the show for the payment of members' subscriptions, so that there was no difficulty. Mr. Dagg's motion was carried., It was stated by a member that in consequence of the decision not to accept entries of pigs for the show not eligible for registration in the New Zealand Herd Book, one good breeder he knew would not be able to exhibit.

It was pointed out that an additional class was to be formed for grade pigs. Mr. Pettigrew said that pedigree pigs would not be considered eligible for grade classes by the judge, whether in the herd book or not.

Mr. HuggKt gave notice of motion for next mooting that the resolution standing on the minute book relating to pedigree pigs be rescinded. The president said their overdraft limit was £IOOO, and they had reached the other day £990 fls !)d. Sufficient money, however, kept coming in to keep them going.

Mr. Boon reFerred to the offer of Messrs Were and Sangster to give. £5 5s each for two classes uf herds —under 20 and over 20. He thought it would be better to have a challenge trophy, in which case he would also give a donation

The president explained the conditions of the competition. The prize was to be awarded on huttor-fat production. Mr. Boon moved that Messrs Were and Sangster he written to and asked if they would allow their donation to go towards a points prize for cattle. What they proposed would be of no advantage to the show, and would not increase their entries, while the judging would involve a great deal of work. It was finally decided to ask the two gentlemen 'to attend the next meeting and explain their proposal. The president said that with a view to increasing the membership, obtaining donations, and inducing farmers to enter stock, etc., at the show it was proposed to block out- the whole district in small areas with special representatives in each, who would do their best to further the interests-of the association. After consideration, the sub-districts and representatives were fixed as follows:—Stratford: Messrs Judd, Aylward, and Boon; Cardiff, town boundary to Wliangamomona River: Messrs Marchant and Belcher; Cardiff, Whangamomona River to Palmer Road: Mr. ,T.
