GLOOMY OUTLOOK FOR WHEAT CROPS. Melbourne, Aug. 20. the manager of the Wheat Commission reports that owing to the drought and frosts the Riverina wheat areas are in a bad condition, being almost beyond recovery. The northern districts are also much retarded. ENTERTAINMENT SOCIETY DISBANDED. Sydney, Aug. 20. The society which entertained the New Zealand soldiers passing through Sydney has been disbanded. During its existence it entertained and otherwise assisted thousands. CIVIL SERVANTS' REQUEST. Sydney, Aug. 20. A deputation of civil servants presented to the Attorney General a resolution urging the Government to increase salaries by £SO per annum, also to grant a caßh bonus to meet the higher cost of living.
