CHILD WELFARE LEAGUE. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Masterton, Last Night. At a meeting of religious workers, representing all Protestant denominations, held in Masterton this evening, a resolution was passed in the direction of forming a child welfare league, the object being to further the proposal 'of the Rev. A. T. Thompson, formerly of Christchurch, to establish colleges for the education of Sunday school pastors. FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
Falmerston North, Last Night. The executive of the Manawatu A.'and P. Association endorsed the Feilding resolution favoring the setting up of a commission of expert producers to proceed to England and investigate the frozen meat position, and, if possible, to arrange for the future distribution of meat, and to endeavor to induce the English authorities to place our meat on the market without profit or loss to the Imperial Government. LAND SALES AT TEMUKA. Timaru, Last Night.' At Temuka to-day the Springfield rich dairy land farm of the late Donald Grant, within a mile of Temuka Borough, wag sold at auction in ten lots of from 10 to 20 acres. A 20-acre lot with four-roomed house sold for £BB per acre, and other lots at £55 to £BO per acre. Of the smaller lots nearer the borough, only on*, of five acres, was sold at £7O. DISSATISFIED PAINTERS. Auckland, Last Night. The members of the Painters'. Union in Auckland are so much out of sympathy with the classification scheme that has been put into the Arbitration Court's last amendment of the award in this trade that they intend to fight the system, and ui-aoimously passed a drastic resolution at a special meeting. The aetual wording of the resolution was: "That all members of this union working for employers paying less than Is lOd per hour shall give one hour's notice and leave." The resolution obviously cannot come into force until Friday (pay day), when the workers will find out just how they are graded.
WESTLAND HOSPITAL EXTENSIONS.
Hokitika, Last Night. At a meeting of the trustees of the Hokitika Savings Bank to-day £IOOO was voted towards a new wing and nurses' quarters at the Westland Hospital to mark the conclusion of peace. The building scheme involves an expenditure of about £12,000 for partial completion, and an additional £BOOO for full completion. The board is now arranging to undertake it as soon as the plans, now in hand, are prepared. AMENDED PRICES FOR WHEAT.
Wellington, Last Night. The regulations with reference to the prices to be paid by the Government for good milling wheat have been amended. The prices fixed now are: In August, 19i9, 6s 8d per bushel; September, 1919, 6s B}d; in or after October, 1919, 6s 9d per bushel.
