HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. I The ordinary meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools Board was held last night, when there were present: Messrs. L. C. Sladden (chairman), E. P. Webster, A. Morton, L. A. Nolan, A. H. Johnstone, A. E. Washer, J. S„ Fox, H. Trimble, and S. G. Smith, M.P. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. Fookes. BUILDING COMMITTEE'S REPORT. Mr. J. S. Fox (chairman), on behalf of the Building Committee, reported that the tender of Messrs. Boon Bros. ( £1303), being the lowest of four received, hart been accepted far the erection of the wing at the boys' boardinghnttse, for which the Government had given a grant of £'100; also that Messrs. Johnstone, Smith, and Moyes had been appointed a sub-committee to prepare a report to accompany the application for grants for boys' and girls' extra classroom, accommodation, and boys' and girls' new boardinghouse; also, that subject to « report from the Finance Committee fiat there were funds availablo for the purpose, the Board be recommended to proceed with alterations and erection of extra bathroom accommodation at the boys' old boardinghouse, and that Mr. Cumming's "lay out" of Hie grounds at the boys' school he not adopted for the present. The furniture authorised to be bought for Miss Banwas being obtained. The report was confirmed.
On the motion of Messrs. Trimble and Nolan, it was resolved to apply to the Department . for a grant to eover the cost of erecting the wing in excess of the ("tovernmeiit grant of £llOO. The Finance Committee recommended that plans be prepared and tenders called for the extra bathroom accommodation at tlio old boardinghouse at the boys' school. The Building Committee was given power to accept a tender, provided the cost was within a certain price. Extension of time was granted the sub-committee in which to prepare plans, etc., for the proposed additions at the bovs' and oirls' schools, and new boardinghouse accommodation for the boys' and girls' schools. GENERAL The question of appointing a. competent person to supervise repairs, etc., to the Board's properties referred to the Building Committee, who will report at nex't meeting. Mr. Washer was added to the Farm Committee.
